How to introduce numbers to young children
You should be ready to engage these kids every 20 minutes in the online class with different activities.
Plan ahead on the activities.
You can plan to do one activity per class for grade 1.
You should plan to do one broadcast call to engage the children.
It is preferable to combine your first grader with one or two higher grade students for multiple batches.
The kids are generally playful so it is difficult to engage them for more than 30 minutes at a time with the worksheets.
The class can be tailored to have 20 min of worksheets, then whiteboard activity, then go back to worksheets.
Try to identify each kid’s natural interests.
Apart from cuemath hours, try to incorporate games with a zoom call once a month. Plan an event once a month over zoom with some math riddles or instant quiz.
Try some new ideas to teach concepts using the whiteboard and Cueing.

Then ask the student to count and write on his book. Take the parent’s help in making the chart by involving the student.
Ask student to repeat the same numbers along the same line in the second row , something like this

So the student adds like this
10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19
Now ask the student to write so for 10 rows, to get numbers from 0 to 99.In this way, the hundred chart is now complete. The student can use it for his full curriculum of first grade. Now ask the student to add a 1 on the left of each number in the second row.
After you make the student do the first activity, introduce the partial grid.
Go to whiteboard while in video/audio call, ask the student to keep working on his sheet. Insert the partial grid image.Once you did that, ask him to work on it while you disconnect the call.After 10 minutes, call again and see how much he has progressed.Guide him or her if he or she has not progressed. Ensure that he or she gets the idea.
How to introduce addition and subtraction.
Use the hundred chart like a number line.
If the student wants to add 2 and 6, the student should circle the 2 in the hundred chart and from there, count six jumps or numbers to get to 8, which is the answer.
For subtraction, use the same method in reverse.
Start from 8 and count 6 numbers backward to reach 2.
In this way, every class can be made more interactive.
Using FRB terminology
To introduce the ones, use the yellow colour in the whiteboard pen, thick version and always use that way, so that the student does not get confused .
To write the tens, always use blue colour in the whiteboard pen, thick version and always use that way.
Match the colours to the abacus beads or blocks and rods accordingly.
The students will absorb the concept much more quickly.
